The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a special income tax benefit
for people who work full-or part-time. If you qualify, you'll owe less in federal
taxes and could get a partial refund. Even if you don't owe tax, you might be
eligible for the EITC, but you must file a federal tax return.
Some taxpayers might be eligible to claim the EITC for the first
time, especially if there were changes in the family such as a new child, divorce
or a decrease in earnings during the year.
For more information about the EITC and help with filing your
return, visit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Web site at www.irs.gov/eitc
or call the IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-1040 for the location of a Volunteer
Income Tax Assistance (VITA) center near you.
