This service can be a "safety net" if you or someone
you care for misses a payment on the monthly gas bill. A third party can be
notified if service is in danger of being shutoff for non-payment. This doesn't
mean that the third party is obligated to pay the bill, and it doesn't necessarily
prevent the shutoff. But it does alert the third party that the person is having
problems and might need help or advice. Third-party notification is especially
helpful for someone who lives alone or who's dealing with chronic illness. To
request this service, both parties should complete the authorization
form and return it to Columbia Gas at the address on the form.
